You too, can Preach to the Street

arnie

We met Arnie in the Mall one day, just bearing his cross…

I have recently been producing and distributing little cards which contain a single Bible verse, and a very brief reflection on what that verse means for someone reading it. This has been wildly popular with my friends on the street. So far, two of the guys have asked for more, so that they can hand them out to friends!

Would you like to be part of this?

Participate with us!

I picked twenty four verses myself when I created them, but I thought I would just throw this open to anyone who would like to “preach” to someone who dearly needs it.

What verses are powerfully meaningful for you? What would they mean to someone who might be living on the street, or in transitory housing? Or someone in a violent relationship, or trapped in substance abuse?

People need to hear the wonderful, beautiful words of God, who said, “Comfort ye. Comfort ye, my people” (Isaiah 40:1).

I invite you to leave a comment below, specifying a verse, and a very brief application of it. If it’s small enough to fit on a card, I’ll use it. Then your teaching will be going out to the streets.

Yes you can!

Have you always had a heart for the lost, but never found a way to connect? Now’s your chance.

Please comment below with your verse. If you don’t want to provide an “application”, that’s fine. I’ll write one.

I want to know that I carry the wishes and prayers of all the faithful with me as I go to the lost. I want you to be part of my ministry. I want to be able to tell people about how believers everywhere are praying for them. This matters. I can’t possibly express to you how much this matters: “Someone is praying for me?”

This is what they look like (Blue on one side, red on the other):

Tract

Here is the list I already compiled. You can see the front of the card here, and if you hover the mouse over it you will see what is printed on the back. I have already handed out these cards five times over…

It’s time for a new batch.

I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face troubles. But take courage; I have overcome the world!

-John 16:33

See, the home of God is among humanity. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them

-Revelation 21:3

God will wipe every tear from the people’s eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.

-Revelation 21:4

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

-Matthew 5:4

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

-Matthew 5:9

let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven

-Matthew 5:16

If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; its desire is to have you, but you must master it.

-Genesis 4:7

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

-1 Samuel 16:7

God did not give us a spirit of fearfulness but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline

-2 Timothy 1:7

God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us

-Romans 5:8

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

-John 3:16

As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God.

-Psalm 42:1

It was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.

– Psalm 139:13-14

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth.

– 1 Corinthians 13:4-6

I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.

– Luke 15:7

Indeed, all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

– 2 Timothy 3:12

I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth;

 and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God

– Job 19:25-26

A child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named:

“Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”.

– Isaiah 9:6

Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles,

they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

– Isaiah 40:31

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

– Psalm 23:5

Hey! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you that have no money come, buy and eat!

Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

– Isaiah 55:1

Because he himself was tested by what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.

– Hebrews 2:18

Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

– Hebrews 9:29

Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God our Saviour…

– Jude 1:24-25

Please tell me your favourite verse of encouragement. Let’s minister the word together.

  1. Good one. I could use Psalm 27:1 for that:

    The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
    The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
    of whom shall I be afraid?

    … or Psalm 23:4 instead:
    Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
    I fear no evil;
    for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff—
    they comfort me.

    Or both…?

  2. My special ones… 🙂
    Joel 2:25, 26
    2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV or NKJV)
    Zephaniah 3:17

  3. Cool. I’ve already got 2 Tim 1:7, but the others are great!

  4. (not “but the others are great”, rather, “AND the others are great” 🙂 )
