Reflections on the Trip of a Lifetime: Day 0 Anticipation

Contents

Expectations

worldThese are my thoughts as I pack for a Study Tour of Greece and Turkey with my Bible College:

Intellectually

My thinking process relies on concrete connections, and especially connections to places. Travelling to so many of the important places mentioned in the New Testament means that I will have a more concrete relationship with the New Testament narratives.

In Ministry

My ministry is heavily involved with stories. I find that when I tell the stories of Paul’s missionary journeys, some of the events and places blur easily together. I anticipate that walking through the places and connecting them to the stories will help me to be better able to tell the stories.

Emotionally

I have never travelled to a country that has a native language other than English. This represents a “great unknown” for me, and I’m excited to be stepping into it.

The one partial “known quantity” is the concept of Gallipoli. I have long thought that it would be wonderful, but completely unattainable, to visit the site and pay my respects. Now it is on my agenda! I anticipate some wonderful pain, grief, and hopefully some warm fellowship with others.
